How to Care for Your Cap and Gown

You've made it this far: finished your degree requirements, survived dining hall food, stayed way too late in the PCL, slept through class, cried in class, watched hours of Netflix, fluffed the word count on countless essays, and finally got everything you needed together for graduation. Now is not the time to blow it.

Now that you have your cap and gown, there are a few things you need to note in order to keep it in good condition:

1. Your gown is made out of 23 recycled water bottles!

You're helping save the earth, which is awesome! But, because your gown isn't made of typical fabric it will require a little more TLC.

2. Don't use heat on your gown!!

Ironing or steaming your gown is a big no-no. I know you may be tempted to use heat in order to make it look ~flawless~, but you will end up damaging the gown if you do this!

3. Don't machine wash or dry your gown

Even on cold, your gown can still be damaged in a machine. If you absolutely need to clean it, spot treat it with a bit of detergent and a towel and be as gentle as possible.

4. Prevent wrinkles

Hang your gown up immediately - don't just throw it in the back of your closet. If you do this, it will be ready and wrinkle-free by the time graduation comes around! If your gown is looking a little wrinkly and you are desperate, hang it up while you shower. The indirect steam will not damage your gown and it should help the wrinkles fall!
